Golf lessons are always a tricky subject.. I've played golf for the last 6 years and I've personally never had a professional lesson, sure I've had buddies with a lower handicap tell me to improve a few things but are golf lessons really worth it? Let's dive in..
The average individual is going to pick up the sport for a variety of reasons and when they choose to play the game of golf also indicates their level of commitment. For example, if you're 10-11 years old and truly interested in the game of golf and not just mini golf, golf lessons might be a great starting point to make sure you're starting your lifetime activity of golf off on the right foot! I personally wish I started playing golf more regularly through highschool myself but unfortunately didn't have the time.
When it comes to golf lessons, it all comes down to the individuals goal and why they want to achieve that goal. If you're an avid golfer just looking to improve your swing in order to hopefully shave some strokes off your score when playing with friends, I'd look into the cost of the golf lessons and see if they're really worth it.
On the other hand, if you're an avid golfer who is looking to take their game to the next level and truly compete in amateur tournaments or even the tournaments at your membership golf course, a lesson may give you the upper hand!
Most of the common golfers that I tend to play with have never had a legitimate golf lesson and still are able to navigate the golf course and learn to change their approach on the fly.
